A young KCC Dragons team led by Usman Manj faced the Pioneers CC on a bright sunny afternoon at HKU Sandy Bay. The day started out positively for the Dragons as Usman won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Usman and Naveen went out to bat and played positively. Usman Manj reached his first 100 for the club in the 15th over but shortly fell after for 101 with the score on 136.
The next batsman in for the Dragons was Apurv Sharma who joined Naveen and had a partnership of 96 runs and took the score to 230. Naveen was unlucky to get out after playing a well-controlled innings, as he had inside edged a delivery and was given out LBW for 48.
Hersh Khatri was the next man in and played the supporting role in the 75 run partnership with Apurv which took the Dragons score to 305. Apurv also made his first 100 for the club by pulling a ball over square leg for six. Hersh then mistimed a flick shot and got the leading edge straight into the hands of the cover fielder and fell for 19.

The Dragons were very satisfied with their score and were confident that they could defend this. New ball bowlers Ehsan Nawaz and Usama Ahmed kept things tight in the first few overs and took the wickets off the openers. Usama then struck a 2nd time to remove another Pioneers CC batsman with the score on 33/3.
Spinners Ansh Lulla and Atif Hussain were brought on to keep the runs down and pick up quick wickets. Ansh Lulla took two quick wickets with the score on 95 and was on a hat trick. With men around the bat and close in fielders, the pressure was on and the Pioneers number 8 batsmen had no response to Ansh Lulla’s flighted delivery, which he missed and was sharply stumped by Nikhil Makharia. Ansh Lulla took his first hat trick!
But he wasn’t finished, he dismissed the next batsmen of the following ball and took a double hat trick! The scoreboard read 95/8.
