The 2010/2011 season was split into 2 formats for the first time seeing a 20/20 competition, the Sunday Cup and also the standard 50 over format of the Sunday League.

The Sunday Cup saw the Infidels come 4th and we were in the race for the title right up until the 3rd last round where we went down to the eventual winners Little Sai Wan. The result of 4th was not a bad end for us, as I believe we never really hit our straps throughout the Sunday Cup; however we were able to keep on stringing the wins together, with this in mind it just shows what we will be able to achieve next year. There were some notable performances throughout the Sunday Cup; the first one that springs to mind was Pete’s 150 in the 2nd game of the season after being dropped on 0 in the first over, to say that was a costly drop is an understatement! Immy also bowled extremely well throughout the season and half way through saw him lead the bowling stats, and also picking up a hat trick.

The Sunday League format was definitely not a year to be remembered for the Infidels. We struggled throughout the whole season putting the same team on the park week in and week out through lack of availability from players and this definitely showed in the results. Even though we struggled to post wins on the board, there were a number of close games that could have gone either way, and if they did, the season would have been a completely different one. There were good performance’s that did come out of the season. Usman’s batting at the top of the order helped us lay a platform to start our innings off and a big score is definitely not far off for Ussy. The ever reliable Damien P Kelleher and Peter’s batting and bowling really helped hold us together.

I am looking forward to next season and going 3 places better in the Sunday Cup and also making a big push for the top 4 in the Sunday league which we are definitely capable of.

There was a about a 40 min break till the second T20 and with everyone resting up it was time to take to the Optimists. Nugget started the ball rolling with his fantastic coin toss and after making it 3 wins from 3 attempts we decided to have another bat.

After some changes to the team for the second game we set about making up for our early effort.  The Optimists opened their attack with a young off spinner and off his first rock of the game Woody skied a chance to mid wicket who decided to grass a very easy chance. This was going to prove slightly costly for the HKCC and Woody went about taking them to the cleaners. Shan another new addition to the mighty Dels showed us he will be making plenty of runs for us this season and went about building a very effective partnership with Woody by turning the strike over to let Woody tee off which  put us in a fantastic position to push home for a huge total which we did! Woody continued his liking for the HKCC bowling and soon brought up his second century for the club in 2 weeks. Unfortunately the pain did not stop here for the HKCC and the Goose was called for, with the crowds flooding into the KCC to see some serious bombing, Woody and Usman put on a 50 run partnership to end off the innings with Woody ending the innings on 150 and the Dels setting a huge total of 204.

The HKCC started off at a rate of knots however they were going to struggle to maintain this. Jammy was brought on from the short end and had an immediate impact snaring 3 wickets and putting the HKCC on the back foot. With the crowd consisting of Macnulty and K Dawg roaring form the top of the pool pavilion (you shouldn't drink in the sun boys) the Infidels proceeded to take wickets at regular intervals  it was left to Waq Attack to clean up the tail who ended with figures of 3 for 7. Even though it was very hot and it was also our second game of the day the fielders and bowlers all chipped in, with special mention going to Usman who kept well throughout the whole day and kept his chirp up and kept the boys keen!

The Dels first T20 of the season saw us come against us the Vagabonds again and we had a great chance to make up for last weekend’s loss. Nugget started the game off well winning the toss and we decided to have a bat on another KCC road.

The Vagabonds made an early in road into our batting however Woody and K Dawg/Henry the Octopus set about bringing the crowds back and started hitting boundaries at will. However just when we were looking at a possible total of 200,  2 quick run outs (well done Nugget) put us on the back foot and suddenly we were looking at total of 140. Enter Farooq and with his late hockey styled hitting and with Waq Attack chipping in we posted a very respectable 166.

Unfortunately we never really set the standard in the field, the Vagabonds got off to a good start and were flying until Chris Macnulty made 2 quick break throughs. Unfortunately with a couple of dropped catches and some wayward bowling again the Vagabonds passed our total 4 down  with 2.5 over's left.

It was a disappointing finish as I thought with our bowling 166 was going to be enough, however extras and dropped catches proved our undoing again. T20 cricket is quite new to all of us having only played a very limited amount of this type of cricket and the double header provided us with a great opportunity to get our season underway with a victory and to make up for the previous game.

With a lighting quick outfield and a belter of a deck a par score was going to be around 240 at the least, with some good batting by Daniel Fullgrabe a new addition to the Dels, the K Dawg as he likes to be known and a fantastic ton by Woody we set a very competitive total of 265. The team batted well to get to this total as Vagabonds were bowling good channels however with the tempo being lifted from mid innings to the end a very competitive total of 261 was set.

We started off with Immy making in roads at the top of the order and Chris Macnulty taking his first wicket for the Dels and we had them reeling at 4 for 75. Unfortunately with some dropped catches and some wayward bowling the Vagabonds started to get away from us even though wickets were falling at regular intervals. With a couple of their batsmen teeing off late in the game and a big ton from one of their top order the Vagabonds passed our total 9 down with 2 overs to go.

Even though we lost our first game of the season some good things could be taken from the game and once we clear the rust from all our systems, we will be in with a great chance to push for the title.

The Infidels had a mixed season this year, making the semis was not a bad result however I honestly believe we could have made it further and that's what we will do next year.

Splitting into two teams this year was what the KCC needed to do and we are already starting to see some great young talent coming through and over the next 2 years both KCC teams will be at the forefront of HK cricket and winning trophies. This year however definitely tested player numbers and depth and the end result of making the semis was still a very good effort when at times we really struggled to get a team on the park, however over the season there were some great individual performances as well as team performances.

The Infidels I believe struggled this year in stringing performances together and also performing as a team on a regular basis, however when we did perform as a team we showed the competition what we were capable of . The victory of the HKCC Wanderers was a real standout for me this year and next year we should be striving to play like this all year. In this game everyone contributed both with bat, ball and in the field which resulted in beating the team that came third by over 100 runs, this was one of the most enjoyable victories I have had over the HKCC.

Peter Wooden came into the Infidels on his arrival into HK and really made his  mark on the Sunday comp both with his professionalism and with wickets and runs. He helped us to get into the right frame of mind for games through warm ups and by also showing us the attitude we should be taking into games,  I would  like to thank Peter for his help throughout the season for organising the warm ups and also his on field advice.

A new introduction to the Infidels this year was player fines which Matt I want to be a Crusader Collins looked after and in fact took great pride in looking after. After every game a fine session would be held around the esky, with players receiving fines for genetics , dropped catches,  golden ducks, ducks, lateness  and general stupidity throughout the game, this built a substantial fines kitty which was used for a very enjoyable end of season lunch.

I personally had a very enjoyable season with the Infidels and would like to thank everyone in the squad, as everyone contributed to creating a great team environment. I strongly believe if we keep this team environment up, get everyone to training which will result in us becoming more consistent  we will go from making the semis to lifting the Sunday trophy.
