The HKCA is planning dramatic changes to Hong Kong's domestic league stucture in the 2011-12 season. Changes include splitting the Saturday League into two divisions and introducing a new 5-team Premier League. These changes will have a large impact on the way we play cricket at KCC...
Championship Divisions 1 & 2The Saturday League has been split into two Divisions of ten teams. The split is based on the finishing places in the ladder for the 2010-11 season. Therefore Tartars and Saracens will play in Division One while Crusaders will play in Division Two.
- Each team will play 13 35-over matches in the regular season followed by semi-finals and finals to decide the division champions.
- The Division Two finalists will be automatically promoted to Division One in 2012-13 while the bottom two teams in Division One will be demoted to Division Two.
- A new, all Chinese team will be added to Division Two to bring the number of teams in that Division to ten.
- Teams will be limited to a maximum number of Premier League players in their playing XI (final number to be confirmed).
- Matches will be played using a 4-piece leather ball (colour to be determined).
Championship LeagueThe Sunday League will be renamed the Championship League. Other than that, it remains largely unchanged in format with 11 teams playing 12 round-robin matches.
Premier LeagueA new Premier League will added in 2011-12. This will comprise only five teams - KCC, HKCC, LSWCC, Pakistan Association and Independent Clubs. Each team will play the others in one-day and two-day formats. Points will be scored in each match and the team with the highest aggregate points scored from the two formats will be the Premier League Champion. Clubs will be required to name squads of 16 players in their Premier League teams.
Women's LeagueThe six-team Women's League will involve two rounds of matches. All teams will play each other once in the first round of games. The teams will then split into the top three and bottom three. They will play each other two more times before the top two team will contest the final.
