End of Season Captain's Report - Infidels 21/06/2011
The 2010/2011 season was split into 2 formats for the first time seeing a 20/20 competition, the Sunday Cup and also the standard 50 over format of the Sunday League. The Sunday Cup saw the Infidels come 4th and we were in the race for the title right up until the 3rd last round where we went down to the eventual winners Little Sai Wan. The result of 4th was not a bad end for us, as I believe we never really hit our straps throughout the Sunday Cup; however we were able to keep on stringing the wins together, with this in mind it just shows what we will be able to achieve next year. There were some notable performances throughout the Sunday Cup; the first one that springs to mind was Pete’s 150 in the 2nd game of the season after being dropped on 0 in the first over, to say that was a costly drop is an understatement! Immy also bowled extremely well throughout the season and half way through saw him lead the bowling stats, and also picking up a hat trick. The Sunday League format was definitely not a year to be remembered for the Infidels. We struggled throughout the whole season putting the same team on the park week in and week out through lack of availability from players and this definitely showed in the results. Even though we struggled to post wins on the board, there were a number of close games that could have gone either way, and if they did, the season would have been a completely different one. There were good performance’s that did come out of the season. Usman’s batting at the top of the order helped us lay a platform to start our innings off and a big score is definitely not far off for Ussy. The ever reliable Damien P Kelleher and Peter’s batting and bowling really helped hold us together. I am looking forward to next season and going 3 places better in the Sunday Cup and also making a big push for the top 4 in the Sunday league which we are definitely capable of.
